Thai-style Spicy Pumpkin Soup. I made it using this recipe replacing the coriander pesto with vegan sour cream. I really recommend it, a beautiful and warm winter dish.

My Vegan Adventure

Today I spent with my Mother, she’s a recent convert to veganism, and was actually the person who really convinced me to give it a go, so of course we had a vegan centric day.

First off we had lunch at a really fun Japanese cafe and art space in Northcote, called Disco Beans. They have a (very) small, ever changing menu of vegetarian and mostly vegan meals. We both got the curry special, which was a spinach curry with rice. It was delicious, but best of all, it was only $5! This is definitely the kind of place you’ll love if, like me, you’re on a super tight budget.

Next up we took a trip to The Radical Grocery Store in Brunswick, and it was amazing! In Melbourne, while we do have a tonne of great vegan restaurants, health food stores and fresh fruit/veggies, there are definitely not a whole lot of pre packaged and specifically vegan products available. It was really great to be able to walk into a store and know that I could basically choose anything I wanted. Some of the prices are quite expensive, but all of the food and products were high quality, mostly organic and non GM.

We didn’t buy too much today, but I’ll definitely be going back there. I really recommend it to anyone looking to find great vegan ingredients in Melbourne.

I’m going away an Australian lifestyle festival called Confest over the Easter weekend. I’ve piled up my queue, so look forward to some more great vegan recipes I’ve collected, but a little less of me. See you on the other side!

Welcome, and thank you so much to all of my new followers. While I love it, veganism is not always the easiest path to follow as far as people’s perception and negative judgments of the lifestyle. To know that there are so many people
who support and want to join me in this path is really heartwarming, and it gives me hope that the change I am trying to make for myself and the world is not futile.

If you do have any questions, concerns and suggestions for this blog, or if you just need to talk, feel free to message me and let me know.

I have a cat and a dog, Manny and Ted. Manny is nine years old and we have had him since he was a kitten. He is a sweet, loving and affectionate cat, and I love him as much as I love any other member of my family. The same goes for Teddy. Teddy is an orange Chihuahua cross that we adopted from a shelter three years ago, when he was three or four years old. He is an incredibly friendly, happy and loving dog. These animals fill me with joy and happiness every day, they have an unconditional love for people that they can so easily show without having to ever say a word. They trust us to feed them, to make sure they are healthy, safe and warm, and in return they provide us with the utmost love and dedication. I love them so much that the thought of either one of them being harmed immediately brings tears to my eyes. How can I discriminate between my pets, and any other animal in this world? Every single creature, human or not, is a unique being with it’s own thoughts, traits and needs, they are not commodities. Why, because a cow can provide meat and milk, is it any less of an important being? I cannot look into the eyes of my dog and feel friendship and love, and then justify that any other species of animal is less important.
